Ekilawuli Dduuka
Ekilawuli Community Art Studio is a community art space in Kyebando, Kampala where artists train and mentor local residents to create art, home goods and jewelry with recycled glass. We focus on creating jobs and a sustainable income for our community members through entrepreneurial clubs and guidance.
In 2020 we began developing our own line of handcrafted glass beads made from glass bottles donated and collected from all parts of Uganda. As ornamental beads in a broad range of shapes and colors, the glass radiates a luminescent, organic beauty not evident in its previous life.
Our jewelry is created from beads made from recycled glass collected throughout Uganda and designed by our community members in our studio located in Kyebando, Kampala. Beads are available in all shapes, sizes and colors and with them we developed a line of jewelry ranging from statement pieces to everyday wearable art. The organic beauty of the glass captures light and creates eye catching pieces.
